Information exchange in a Cournot duopoly with nonlinear demand function
نویسنده
چکیده
We study information sharing in a Cournot duopoly with isoelastic demand function, when the elasticity is uncertain. This is one of the rst attempts to analyze the role of nonlinearity in such a framework. We found important results about the pro tability of sharing informations when marginal costs are high and/or the variance between elasticity values is low. From the point of view of welfare considerations, not sharing information seems to be the best scenario.

Complex nonlinear dynamics and controlling chaos in a Cournot duopoly economic model
Complex nonlinear economic dynamics in a Cournot duopoly model proposed by M. Kopel is studied in detail in this work. By utilizing the topological horseshoe theory proposed by Yang XS, the authors detect the topological horseshoe chaotic dynamics in the Cournot duopoly model for the first time, and also give the rigorous computer-assisted verification for the existence of horseshoe. In the pro...
متن کاملNonlinear dynamics in a Cournot duopoly with isoelastic demand
This paper analyses the dynamics of a nonlinear Cournot duopoly with general isoelastic demand (quasi-linear preferences) and quantity-setting firms that have incomplete information about the market demand. Unlike existing papers, we propose a model where the price elasticity of demand is different from one. This causes interesting local and global dynamic events that cannot be observed in the ...
متن کاملDuopoly Information Equilibrium: Cournot and Bertrand
Consider a symmetric differentiated duopoly model in which firms have private market data about the uncertain demand. We analyze two types of duopoly information equilibrium, Cournot and Bertrand, which emerge, respectively, from quantity and price competition, and show that the incentives for information sharing and its welfare consequences depend crucially on the type of competition, the natu...
متن کاملThe rise of complex phenomena in Cournot duopoly games due to demand functions without inflection points
In this paper, we propose Cournot duopoly games where quantity-setting firms use nonlinear demand functions that have no inflection points. Two different kinds of repeated games are introduced based on rationality process of firms and Puu’s incomplete approach. First, a model of two rational firms that are in competition and produce homogenous commodities is introduced. The equilibrium points o...
متن کاملDuopoly Market Analysis within One-Shot Decision Framework with Asymmetric Possibilistic Information
In this paper, a newly emerging duopoly market with a short life cycle is analyzed. The partially known information of market is characterized by the possibility distribution of the parameter in the demand function. Since the life cycle of the new product is short, how many products should be produced by two rival firms is a typical one-shot decision problem. Within the one-shot decision framew...
